A little history

  • 1635: installation of Augustinian Sisters from Dieppe to Vannes, at the request of the Bishop of Vannes
  • 1657: installation of some sisters of Vannes at the request of the inhabitants of Carhaix, to revive the hospital, particularly ruined. Foundation of the ND Monastery of Grace, where the sisters perform both hospital and teaching activities.
  • 1860: transfer of the 23 sisters of Carhaix to Pont-L'Abbé, following the fire of their Monastery. Opening of a health center that will become the Hôtel-Dieu.
  • 1891: at the request of the bishop, 5 sisters leave to found a monastery at "Paradise without God", in South Africa.
  • Wars of 14-18 and 39-45: the Hôtel-Dieu becomes a military hospital 1935: foundation of the Monastery of Perpetual Help in Douarnenez to take care of the hospice
  • 1950s: acquisition of an international reputation for Hôtel-Dieu, development, modernization and extension of buildings in the following decades
  • 2011: rapprochement between the Hôtel-Dieu and the Saint Thomas de Villeneuve Hospitality (integration with the group on January 1, 2012)
